Is this service right for you?

The Problem

You want design punch that stain can’t deliver — white painted floors, checkerboard, bold color accent

When To Choose Painted Floors

  • ✓ Farmhouse or cottage aesthetic (white, dove gray, navy)
  • ✓ Dining room statement (black, deep charcoal)
  • ✓ Checkerboard pattern or stenciling desired
  • ✓ Wood is visually tired but structurally sound

When NOT To Choose

  • ✕ Floors are species you love (walnut, oak) — paint covers the grain entirely
  • ✕ High-traffic commercial use — paint chips faster than stain

Our Clean ReCoat Process™

1

Sand to bare wood

Paint won’t bond to existing poly; full sand required.

2

Bonding primer

Oil or shellac-based primer that grips wood and provides uniform base.

3

Paint in 2 coats

Alkyd or acrylic porch-grade paint, rolled for minimal texture.

4

Seal with 2–3 poly coats

Water-based polyurethane over the paint for durability and easy cleaning.

The Benefits

  • Unlimited color options beyond stain
  • Covers uneven board color variation completely
  • Classic Northeast farmhouse aesthetic
  • Cheaper than replacing tired wood

Common Questions About Painted Floors

Will painted floors chip?

Properly sealed painted floors hold up as well as stained floors. The paint itself is protected by 2–3 coats of polyurethane on top, which is what takes the wear. Chipping happens when DIYers skip the topcoat.

Can I go back to stained floors later?

Yes — painted floors can always be sanded back to bare wood and re-stained. It’s a reversible design choice.

What paint color is most timeless?

Softer whites (Benjamin Moore White Dove, Simply White) read farmhouse and age well. Deep charcoal and navy are bold but dramatic. Bright primaries date quickly.
