Is this service right for you?

The Problem

Floors have years of Pledge, Mop & Glo, or paste wax that prevents any new finish from sticking

When To Choose Wax Removal

  • ✓ You’ve used Mop & Glo, Pledge, Rejuvenate, or paste wax over years
  • ✓ Water beads on the floor instead of absorbing (classic wax sign)
  • ✓ A previous refinisher told you they couldn’t recoat because of "contamination"
  • ✓ The floor feels tacky in humid weather

When NOT To Choose

  • ✕ Floor has no wax/acrylic — deep clean alone may be enough
  • ✕ Finish is already failing — go straight to sand-and-refinish

Our Clean ReCoat Process™

1

Identify contamination

Solvent test to confirm what’s on the floor (wax, acrylic, silicone) and how many layers.

2

Strip in stages

Solvent application, dwell time, mechanical agitation, extraction — repeated until the floor passes an adhesion test.

3

Neutralize & prep

Floor is rinsed, dried, and ready for a fresh recoat (which is usually the next step).

The Benefits

  • Allows a future recoat to actually bond
  • Removes the yellowing/cloudy look from wax buildup
  • No sanding — keeps your original stain and finish intact
  • Safer than DIY solvent stripping

Common Questions About Wax Removal

How do I know if my floor has wax on it?

Drop a few beads of water on the floor. If the water beads up and rolls instead of soaking in within 5 minutes, you likely have wax or silicone on top of the finish. Another tell: a white cotton ball rubbed vigorously on the floor will yellow if wax is present.

Can I just keep waxing forever instead?

You can, but every wax layer must eventually be stripped before any professional refinish — and wax buildup yellows and hazes over time. Most homeowners give up waxing within 5–10 years once the maintenance cost exceeds a single professional recoat.

Does Murphy’s Oil Soap leave a residue like wax?

Yes. Despite the name, Murphy’s Oil Soap deposits a thin soap/oil film on polyurethane finishes that accumulates over time. It doesn’t require full wax removal to clean off, but our standard deep-clean service handles it.
